When we have a space, which is empty and ready for painting we typically follow these steps:
Before any paint is ever opened, we need to identify the order in which to apply paint in each space. We then start with carefully sealing/taping all the floors, windows, vanities, railings, counters, etc. so that all of the non-painted surfaces stay that way.
We may choose to clean the wall with TSP if deemed necessary, i.e. in the kitchen, if excessively stained or greasy.
We'll identify areas of needed attention and fill any and all nail holes, small dents, and cracks as needed. Everything will receive a light sanding to even out the surface. We also use a stain-blocking primer on areas as required to seal out smoke, water damage, crayons, markers, and any other unidentifiable markings! Once the walls have been thoroughly prepped, we apply a minimum of 2 coats of paint according to your colour specifications. We recommend the use of a low sheen or eggshell finish unless otherwise specified.
If the job calls for it, we will lightly sand and clean all of the trim and doors in the house and after caulking all the cracks we spray two coats of a durable semi-gloss enamel on the trim and doors. While initially, many people don’t think we need to paint the trim, doing so really gives the project a finished new home feel. **(additional cost may apply)
When it comes to painting the ceiling, we recommend a stark dead flat white quality paint. Typically, we like to finish the ceiling first. We may paint it the same colour as the walls or in a different colour of your choosing, we may either spray or roll on the paint to the ceiling surface. Lastly,
we clean up all the drops and masking, give your home a final walk-through and perform touch-ups as needed, and do our best to leave your home cleaner than we found it!
